A typing speed test measures how many words per minute (WPM) you can type, along with your accuracy. KumaType generates a random stream of common words in your chosen language and times how quickly and correctly you can type them — no sign-up, no downloads, and nothing is sent to a server.
WPM is calculated by dividing the number of correctly typed characters by 5 (the average length of a word), then dividing by the elapsed time in minutes. This is called net WPM. KumaType also shows your raw WPM, which counts every keystroke you make — including ones you later corrected — so you can see the gap between your top speed and your accurate speed.
Most typing tests only support English. KumaType includes word sets for over 20 languages and scripts, so you can practice a typing test in Hindi, a typing speed test in Arabic, or a WPM test in Japanese, Korean, or Chinese — all in the same minimal interface.
The average typing speed is around 40 words per minute. 60+ WPM is considered fast, and professional typists often reach 80-100+ WPM with high accuracy.
