About KumaType

KumaType is a free, minimal typing speed test. It measures words per minute (WPM) and accuracy while you type a continuous stream of common words, then shows a detailed breakdown — WPM over time, raw speed, consistency, and character accuracy — modeled after the clean, distraction-free typing tests that made this style of tool popular.

Why we built it

Most typing tests only support English. We wanted a typing speed test that felt equally native whether you type in English, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, or any of the other 15+ languages and scripts KumaType supports — without accounts, ads getting in the way of the test itself, or your results being sent anywhere.

How it works

Everything runs client-side, in your browser. Word lists are generated locally per language, your keystrokes are compared in real time, and your results (WPM, raw WPM, accuracy, consistency) are calculated and charted instantly. Nothing is uploaded, and no account is required.

The name

KumaType is built under the Kuma brand — "kuma" (熊) means bear in Japanese. The bear mark reflects the same design language as the rest of the Kuma product family: minimal, dark, and deliberate.
